My Beautiful Fluff is a brand that I, Brittany Washington, founded eight years ago, inspired by my personal experiences growing up as a plus-size woman. Growing up, I often felt inadequate due to my size and struggled with limited clothing options, frequently resorting to boys' clothes because suitable, age-appropriate attire in my size wasn't available. My journey into creating My Beautiful Fluff began when I transitioned to natural hair and found a lack of empowering clothing that represented my identity and experiences. The final push came from the frustrating experience of not being able to try on wedding dresses in boutiques that didn't carry my size.
My Beautiful Fluff aims to fill this gap in the fashion industry by offering body-positive apparel, accessories, and beauty products tailored for plus-size individuals and women with natural hair. The brand is more than just clothing; it's a community that promotes self-love and celebrates diversity. Our product line includes inclusive clothing options, body-positive coloring books, and beauty products like fluffy makeup brushes designed for ease of use and accessibility.
Our mission is to empower and inspire women to embrace their natural beauty and feel confident in their skin. We actively give back to the community by supporting events related to sickle cell, autism, and other causes. Additionally, we collaborate with businesses like Printer’s Mark, which hires people with mental disabilities, aligning with our commitment to social responsibility.
The journey hasn't been easy. Managing the business as a disability-owned entity has its challenges, but the support from programs like Our Village United HerBono and the Sunshine Enterprise Community Business program has been invaluable. These resources have provided technical assistance, helped revise our size chart, and supported our return to manufacturing.
Recently, we expanded our clothing line to include sizes up to 40 and launched our first body-positive coloring book. We're also developing a new coloring book for teens and tweens to promote self-love and inclusivity among younger audiences.
Through My Beautiful Fluff, I hope to create the supportive, empowering community I needed during my formative years, helping others understand that who they are is enough and fostering a space where everyone feels represented and celebrated.
